Sometimes The Old Marketing Techniques Are Better

In-person and other real-world marketing techniques have been seen as a dying breed for quite some time. Some people think that in a few years time, marketing in the real world will cost more than it's worth. If targeted marketing can reach you in your pocket computer, why would you ever care about a billboard? This is what is known as static marketing. It's something that doesn’t move and relies on foot traffic to be effective. But that’s not the only old marketing technique that is under attack, there are many more. It's just that, these techniques haven’t gone like the dinosaurs and become extinct, so why?

Static marketing is iconic

When you go to a sports stadium, you have some billboards all around the field. Just go down to your local football stadium and see billboards of sports brands and food brands, all around the field and seating areas. Why? Isn’t static marketing old news? Well, the thing is, it's actually iconic in a literal sense. Some beer bottle ads have been around stadiums for decades and decades. Everyone knows what the product looks like, who makes it and it becomes a part of people’s childhood and sporting moments. It would be weird to see the Patriots stadium without that Bud Light ad on the front of the field right? So, when you have some advertising space that has longevity in the real world, it becomes a part of the real estate and thus much more memorable.

On the airwaves

Who says radio is dead? Lots of us listen to the radio when we wake up, on our way to work and while we are at work itself. This is why you should meet SiriusXM Satellite Radio and check out the kind of ads they do on their shows. You can write what you want the hosts to say about your product, so be informative. They will also allow you to bid for spaces in the air time when your ad will be shared. Maybe you want to at the start of each show, which is when most of the listeners are listening. You could also want it during a segment that is popular and gets callers.

Meeting people

God bless those people who go out and talk to people about what kind of things they want from products and services. These are people who will go out and meet people at their front doors, speak with people at sports events and go to festivals where they can do surveys and questionnaires. You need this kind of in-person marketing because it gives a voice and face to your brand. People see you are willing to meet them and speak with them and that goes some way to show you care.

Some old marketing techniques are just better than some of the newer ones. But you need a mix of each so try and invest in billboards to gain that iconic static marketing power and also into radio ads that come on before popular shows.
